Dendera · About

A temple, a sky, a house

Dendera takes its name from a temple on the Nile where, some two thousand years ago, the ceiling of a small chapel was carved into a map of the heavens: the twelve signs and the wandering planets turning around the pole, the oldest complete sky to survive from the ancient world. We have borrowed that sky and hung it over the third floor of 45 Rideau Street, where two rooms share one long evening. The Observatory, in navy and gold, is a night sky you can sit beneath, kept for members and the guests they bring. The Oasis, the garden below it, is open to all: green velvet, walnut and brass, a long bar, and a cocktail list that tells the Dendera story one drink at a time. We make things properly and without hurry. Cocktails are finished at the table when they are better for it, the kitchen keeps pace with small, considered plates, and nobody is rushed. The last seating is late. The night is yours.

The rooms shown are renderings of the finished design. Photographs follow at opening.
